The goal of this My Bible First Curriculum is to help children grades 2–5 (ages 7–10) learn to love the Bible and incorporate its principles into their lives.
The curriculum is designed to be completed in three school years. Each year is divided into 156 lessons contained in six student reader booklets:
Year 1 (booklets 1–6): Creation to David
Year 2 (booklets 7–12): King David through part of Jesus’ life
Year 3 (booklets 13–18): The rest of Jesus’ life, Acts, second coming / heaven
You may also download an overview chart of the entire curriculum.
For each year, there are also six matching student workbooks and six matching teaching helps booklets with included pictures. There is also an answer key booklet.
About the Bible lesson booklets:
Each Bible lesson reading booklet contains a table of contents, a list of memory verses, and the Bible lessons and matching nature stories.
The lessons are further subdivided into groups of three: Every pair of two Bible lessons is followed by a nature story that reinforces the Bible lesson. A memory verse goes with each set of three lessons, as well. So in each school year, the child will learn 52 memory verses. All of these memory verses are put to music.
The lessons are designed to be easy to teach. Let the children read verses and answer questions from their own Bibles. If they don’t know how to find verses yet, help them learn.
About the student workbooks:
The workbook has additional questions at two different levels:
The “Do You Remember” questions can be easily answered directly from the lesson. Younger children can answer these questions orally.
The “Digging Deeper” questions are designed for older children who would like more of a challenge. Since these take more time, you may consider only assigning some of these questions to older children.
About the teaching helps and supplied pictures:
The teaching helps contains a teaching outline for each couplet of Bible lessons. In the “teaching aids” box you will find when to use the Supplied Pictures (L2 codes), as well as suggested visuals.
You will also find reproducible activity sheets in the teaching helps. These sheets review the lesson couplets and are meant to be assigned on days you do the nature lesson. There are two levels—Kindergarten (left page) and Primary (right page). Use what is most suitable for each of your students. In the back of this book you will find reproducible decorative sheets for copying the memory verses.
